“I love music...I play music (guitar)...I sing (when no one’s around!). It’s a liberating experience for me. When it comes to my musician portraits, I draw on this passion and aim to bring the painting to life with as much volume and melody as suits that particular musician.
The painting has to ‘sing’ to the viewer and audience. ‘Movement’ within the painting is key. I create the portrait realism and then celebrate with loose bold expressive brush strokes and colour.”

Born with paint in his veins
From organic beginnings stems a uniquely breathtaking artist.
Christian Chapman watched his mother paint portraits and nature studies from a very young age, he subconsciously absorbed these skills and the seed of art was sewn…
Surrounded by the natural beauty of the New Zealand Southern Alps, native bush and panoramic views of the sea, he began a deep affinity with the ocean (surfing with his twin brother) and connecting with the earth.
Upon moving to Australia in his early twenties, Christian began refining his artistic techniques. Before long, he had established his name with gallery representation across the country and soon after he garnered the attention of art critics around the world.
Since then, Christian has held numerous exhibitions & sold hundreds of his stock studio paintings to art collectors worldwide. He has also been commissioned to paint hundreds of portraiture & ocean custom orders internationally.
